Joshua Charles
Founder and CEO
Joshua Charles is the Founder and CEO of Frontier Dominion, a geopolitical research and consulting firm committed to providing unparalleled expertise at the intersection of geopolitics and strategy. As the driving force behind Frontier Dominion, Joshua leverages his profound grasp of research methodologies to empower clients in maximizing organizational growth.

As the leader of Frontier Dominion, Joshua Charles brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. He has a strong background in research and development, honed through roles at Constellation Energy Corporation, the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research, Climate Vault, and Cambridge Global Advisors. His adeptness in research, business development, and strategic acumen has been impactful in positively contributing to the success of projects in nuclear energy and fuel policy, cybersecurity, macroeconomics, project finance, and international finance in emerging, frontier, and developed economies. Joshua is also a Co-owner at Prime Media Entertainment, a music company headquartered in Ghana keen on producing content that meets the international standard of audio and visual content.

Joshua is a budding expert on U.S.-Africa relations and great power competition. He has spoken at the University of San Diego on global health policy, at the University of Chicago on climate change and human vulnerability, and at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City on food policy and nutrition.

Joshua holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago, where he was honored as a Pearson Fellow. His formative years at Cornell University culminated in a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, crowned by a Distinction in Research for his contributions in institutional economics and qualitative methods.​
Benjamin Fields
Senior Consultant
Benjamin Njila Fields is a Senior Consultant at Frontier Dominion with extensive experience as a Researcher, bringing strong substantive experience in various fields, including health, demography, education, and security, with projects spanning all six inhabited continents. He has previously worked at the Carter Center, the United Nations Development Programme, the Cato Institute, the State of Oklahoma, and more.
As a seasoned researcher at two world-leading universities, Benjamin has honed his research skills in both qualitative and quantitative components. Furthermore, he has deployed these skills at top NGOs, intergovernmental organizations, and corporations on a variety of projects related to cybersecurity, global pandemics, electric vehicles, and lab grown meats. Most notably, at The Carter Center, Benjamin contributed to work at the Hispaniola Initiative, a project in collaboration with the ministries of health in both Hati and the Dominican Republic, to eliminate malaria and lymphatic filariasis. Moreover, Benjamin has conducted research for ChargePoint, one of the world's largest network of vehicle charging stations, on fleet card and fleet management service providers to optimize business partnership strategy.

Aside from Benjamin's professional engagements, he is a steward of his community and has a passion for mentorship, teaching, and group dialogue facilitation. This is evident from his time at the University of California, Berkeley, where he routinely assists students in academic planning and character development.
Benjamin Fields is currently a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from the same institution. Prior to this, Benjamin earned a Bachelor of Science in both Development Sociology and Global and Public Health Sciences from Cornell University, marked by 8 minors and a Distinction in Research for his novel work on double consciousness through a social philosophical lens. He has won numerous awards and fellowships including the Computational Social Science Training Program grant funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Matai Muon
Senior Consultant
Matai Muon is a Senior Consultant at Frontier Dominion with considerable expertise as an interdisciplinary researcher spanning economics, politics and policy. He has a strong research background in resource economics and the politics of natural resources governance, particularly as it relates to the burgeoning oil sector in Eastern and Central African oil states.

He has held research and consultancy roles at distinguished research and international development institutions such as the British Institute in Eastern Africa, Human Rights Watch, Refugee Investment Network, and the World Bank, where he continues to shape global development programming through his participation in the Bank’s affiliated youth wing: the Youth Transforming Africa. In his previous experiences, Matai deployed world-class research skills to solve real-world problems such as utilizing his practical knowledge and skills to design and implement socioeconomic programs for the youth and women in fragile and marginalized settings for the World Bank Africa and providing his lived experience as a refugee to advise on the economic pathways for forcibly displaced populations in Eastern Africa as a Research Fellow with the Refugee Investment Network.

Matai occupies several unique advisory positions for catalyzing effective development in the Global South, especially in Africa. He is a Fellow of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), President Obama’s leadership signature for the next generation of African leaders, a Fellow at the African Leadership Institute (ALI), and more recently, a Fellow of the United Nations at Geneva’s esteemed Graduate Study Program (GSP).
Matai Muon begins his Doctorate in International Development at the University of Oxford this Autumn. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies from the same institution. Before Oxford, Matai trained at the University of Nairobi, and the Kenya Institute of Management where he developed substantial research skills in International Studies and Management Science - including a Distinction in Research in the latter.
James Ahabyona
Senior Consultant
James Ahabyona is a Senior Consultant at Frontier Dominion with extensive experience working on projects in Mozambique, Lebanon, Palestine, Uganda, the United States, and Portugal, reflecting a broad range of geographical engagements. In his previous role, he worked on projects for clients such as the Council of Europe, Right to Play, and Global Partnerships for Education. He is an applied microeconomist with a keen interest in technology adoption, school choice, and teacher labor markets.

At Learn More, James was involved in designing and implementing surveys and conducting an econometric analysis for Right to Play’s Enhancing Quality and Inclusive Education (EQIE) project in Lebanon. In addition, while working as an external consultant for a Dutch based non-profit Work: No Child's Business, James authored an annotated bibliography, providing insights into the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to child labor in Uganda. Furthermore, James has extensive research experience as a research assistant for professors at Nova School of Business and Economics and Yale University, supporting projects on pollution, migration, educational aspirations, and school choice systems in Africa. He is proficient in using Stata and Python to conduct data cleaning, visualization, web scraping, and geospatial analysis.

Additionally, James is actively involved in addressing challenges in his community in Uganda. He designed an entrepreneurship training and micro-grants program for teenage mothers and successfully secured a grant from the Little Big Fund to fund it, showcasing his commitment to social impact projects. James' project was highlighted in the 2024 Little Big Fund Impact report showcasing community-led social changemakers around the world.

James holds a Master of Science in Economics from the Nova School of Business and Economics in Portugal, where he earned the NOVAFRICA Fellowship Merit-Based Scholarship. In his masters thesis, he examined whether games can predict mobile money adoption using results from a large field experiment conducted in Mozambique. Prior to that, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Development Economics with Honors from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, placing in the top 1% of his class, and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Uganda Technical College Bushenyi.
